Ursula von der Leyen will ask Beijing for fair competition - 1

The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that in her meeting with the Chinese President Xi Jinping in Paris will insist on "fair competition" from China, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.

"We must act to ensure that competition is fair and not distorted," she said in a statement issued just hours before her meeting in Paris with Xi and French President Emmanuel Macron.

"Currently, China, with the help of huge subsidies, produces more than it sells because of weak domestic demand. As a result, there is an oversupply of subsidized Chinese products such as electric cars and steel, leading to unfair trade. Europe cannot accept such practices that distort the market and that could lead to deindustrialization in Europe," Von der Leyen emphasized in his statement.

In previous conversations with the Chinese president, "I have clearly stated that the current imbalance in market access is not sustainable and must be corrected,", she noted.

There are many trade disagreements between Brussels and Beijing. Threatened to find itself sandwiched between the US and Chinese economies, which receive massive state support, the European Union has launched multiple investigations in recent months into Chinese state subsidies for several industries, mainly electric cars, which the EU says distorts competition.

Beijing considers these measures to be "protectionist" and does not approve of them.
