„I don't see how it can to reopen the so-called French proposal to the Republic of Macedonia. I consider the postponement of the constitutional changes to be a tragic waste of time for the inhabitants of North Macedonia. They should have the chance to start negotiations for EU membership”.
This was stated by Vesela Cherneva - Deputy Director of the European Council on Foreign Policy, to NOVA NEWS.
It is a pity that there is no change in the Constitution of North Macedonia, where the Bulgarians should also be mentioned. The negotiations could have already started, she believes.
Regarding the request from RSM Bulgaria to make more concessions in their favor, Cherneva explained: “I don't see which Bulgarian government would start renegotiating the French proposal. The negotiations we conducted were at a great domestic political cost. We remind you that at that time she was an adviser to former Prime Minister Kiril Petkov.
She sees three options for the Euro-Atlantic future of our south-western neighbor. “If the RSM reverses the process, it will find itself years behind. The second option is to start negotiations by accepting the offer. The third option is to finally turn its back on the European perspective of the Republic of Macedonia, the expert explained. According to her, it is necessary to use what has been achieved and build on it.
Regarding North Macedonia's disputes with Greece, she explained that the rhetoric seemed to be toned down there.
For the European elections, she said that every country is important. According to Cherneva, the absence of Maria Gabriel from the Eurolists is a big mystery.
